Welcome to Bristol Samaritans
At Bristol Samaritans, we provide confidential emotional support to those in need of a safe space to talk over problems, feelings, stress or anything that maybe worrying them, especially those in extreme despair. We do this by telephone, email and by performing outreach into our communities.
Bristol Samaritans is focussed on being diverse and inclusive, and welcomes new volunteers and callers from all backgrounds.
During 2022 almost 200 volunteers at Bristol Samaritans supported and responded to over 26,000 contacts for support by phone and email. In addition there were a number of face to face contacts from prison inmates with the “Listeners” we have trained in the prisons we support, as well as emotional support provided in settings within the community.
We also provide talks for community groups, schools and other organisations interested in our work. We have partnerships with a number of local organisations, including local health services, CRUSE and as noted above, in HM Prison Bristol and HM Prison Eastwood Park.
A big focus for Bristol Samaritans will be on being there for callers when they most need us. This means that in addition to responding to contacts from insode the branch, we'll be reaching out to at risk groups in our local community to make sure they know we're there for them and know how to get access to our support in times of need.
I'm very proud of our committed volunteers - whether they are providing support to callers or working behind the scenes, they are making a positive impact to the community around the clock!
