Working together to prevent suicide and make change that saves lives
Suicide prevention is everyone's business. Samaritans works closely with industries and organisations to create suicide prevention strategies that save lives.
Ways we can work together
Suicide prevention strategies
Often organisations view staff suicide as totally unthinkable, but knowing what to do if it happens and providing emotional support services protects employees and the organisation.
We’re renowned for our live-saving partnerships with companies affected by suicide. Read about our award-winning partnership with Network Rail.
Among the services we offer are:
- Staff training: spotting the signs of someone in crisis and making an intervention
- Research: how, where and when suicide takes place and identifying potential risk
- Media influence: how suicide is reported and support with dealing with the press
- Postvention action plans: supporting staff and preventing imitational suicides after an incident

Protecting vulnerable customers
Banks, credit card issuers, credit service companies, insurance companies, utilities, phone companies and online retailers have all turned to Samaritans for help.
When a customer is vulnerable, staff need special training to handle the call. The customer may have a mental health condition or they may be grieving. Whatever the reason, our partners have been fully trained to deal with vulnerable customers appropriately, and they know they can use a special referral system to ensure that customer gets the help needed from Samaritans.
