Celebrating our 50th anniversary with a 50 for 50 challenge
During May 2021 we organised a series of fun and creative events to celebrate our 50th anniversary.
We asked our volunteers to think of 50 things they could do throughout the month and to share photos of their endeavours with our branch publicity officer who posted the photos on our twitter account @DurhamSams.
There was no end to the "50 for 50" ideas which included knitting flowers, crocheting dishcloths, sewing key fobs, baking 50 cakes and cookies, making 50 foods from 50 countries, hiking 50 miles, running 50 kilometres, giving 50 clothes to charity, 50 dog walks and, from our youngest participant, 5 year old Ava Lynn, 50 star jumps.
Although the aim of the challenge wasn't about raising funds, we raised £700 over the month and are so grateful to everyone who supported us.
