Samaritans have launched an Online Safety Advisory Service, providing free and confidential specialist advice on issues relating to self-harm and suicide content online.
The service is aimed at supporting online sites and platforms, as well as professionals working in the wider sector, such as:
- those working in online safety seeking suicide and self-harm specific advice
- professionals working in suicide prevention in the online space
- people working directly with people affected by online suicide and self-harm content
- moderators and volunteers of online spaces
How can we help?
We welcome any queries related to online self-harm and suicide content. We can provide specialist support and advise on a range of topics, such as:
- Reviewing platform policies around self-harm and suicide content and moderation processes
- Developing or advising on the creation of bespoke resources to support users, parents, health professionals and schools
- Concerns about specific websites or types of harmful content, such as online challenges and hoaxes
