As part of our commitment to reducing suicide, we train prisoners to provide emotional support to their peers, by becoming 'Listeners'
On Friday 14th October 2022 we celebrated 20 years of our listeners scheme at Magilligan prison. We were joined by Justice minister Naomi Long, Samaritans Ireland Assistant Director Mark Kennedy and Gary Milling, Governor of Magilligan Prison as well as some of our amazing volunteers.
We are so proud of our listener service that helps to specially train prisoners who are then able to offer confidential emotional support to their peers who may be struggling to cope or have suicidal feelings.
