The partnership will help Samaritans grow and expand its services through employee volunteering and fundraising activities.
Schroders has announced a new three-year partnership with Samaritans.
Samaritans is open 24 hours a day, 365 days a week, with over 200 branches across the UK and Ireland. Demand for the service is growing with Samaritans responding to a call for help every six seconds.
Through the partnership, Schroders will help grow and expand Samaritans’ services through employee volunteering and fundraising activities. In 2020, Samaritans is launching its ‘City Hub’, a new flexible volunteering delivery centre which the charity intends will help meet the growing number of calls, as well as provide new volunteering opportunities.
Rory Bateman, Schroders Head of Equities and GMC (Group Management Committee) sponsor of Schroders mental health ERG (Employee Resource Group), commented:
“We are always looking for opportunities to raise awareness around mental health. We have a responsibility not just to educate our employees but to our communities as well. Towards the end of 2019, we signed the new Mental Health at Work Commitment, which provides a framework of standards to create a working environment for employees to thrive. Through our partnership with Samaritans and funding the new City Hub, we hope to facilitate more positive environments for who struggle with their mental health.”
At the beginning of 2019, Schroders established a new focus on ‘improving futures’ as part of efforts to further boost its impact as a firm.
Schroders’ UK charity partnerships focus on the issues the business feels strongly about including; improving social mobility, breaking down barriers to education and employment, and mental health. Through partnerships the business hopes to help influence real change and engage employees via both fundraising and volunteering, using their skills to make a lasting positive social impact and improving people’s futures.
Ruth Sutherland, Samaritans CEO, said:
“When someone is feeling overwhelmed, it’s vital that they are listened to and supported to work through difficult thoughts and feelings. With our confidential 24-hour service, available 365 days a year, we are often the only place people can turn to, especially when other services are unavailable.
“We look forward to working with Schroders to ensure that Samaritans can continue to be there for people in ways that feel most comfortable to them, and to help us to recruit more volunteers. Together, we will save lives.”
