Samaritans welcomes news that video-on-demand services set to come under Ofcom rules.
Responding to measures set out in the new draft Media Bill, Lorna Fraser, Media Guidelines Executive Lead at Samaritans, said: “This is a very positive step towards ensuring that, in an era of global internet streaming, producers will still have to meet the media regulation standards in the UK.
“It is vital that we have suitable protections in place for different audiences, which is why Samaritans has been working with UK media for many years, providing expert advice on the creation of content covering themes of suicide and self-harm.
“I am delighted that the Government has listened to our concerns about video-on-demand services and is set to take action.”
