Responding to the passing of the Online Safety Bill today, Julie Bentley, CEO of Samaritans, said:
“The passing of the Online Safety Bill today is an important moment for suicide prevention. We’re pleased to see the government recognise the need to tackle harmful suicide and self-harm content within the new laws.
“However, harmful suicide and self-harm content has a devastating impact on people and without full protections for over 18s, the bill falls short of its promise to make the UK ‘the safest place in the world to be online’.”
