Responding to the publication of the Gambling White Paper, Julie Bentley, CEO of Samaritans, said:
The frustrating wait for the Gambling White Paper may be over but the key changes needed to reduce harm are still being kicked into the long grass.
There is a clear association between gambling, financial worries and suicide so preventing unaffordable losses needs urgent action now, not after another period of consultation and delay. Without making the marketing of gambling safer for the public, the government is not going far enough. They must take stronger steps on gambling reform to help save lives.
