Samaritans Chief Executive Julie Bentley has slammed the abhorrent violence which is threatening communities across the country.
Julie Bentley, Samaritans Chief Executive, said: “Our hearts go out to anyone who has been affected by the shameful, racist attacks and the violent scenes that have played out in many of our streets and cities over the past few days. We know that the horrifying events will not only have been frightening for those communities where these events are happening, but this racial abuse and discrimination playing out across news and social media will have impacted people’s wellbeing and mental health.
“There is no place in our society for such hatred. As Samaritans we stand firmly against racism and religious discrimination and we want to remind the communities affected that the Samaritans service is there for you.
“Regrettably we have had to close some of our branches for volunteers’ safety, but we are doing everything we can to minimise any disruption to our service because it is in times like these that Samaritans is needed more than ever.”
