The special design by Global Street Art, in support of Samaritans, is on Great Eastern Street, encouraging anyone currently struggling to reach out
A special mural by Global Street Art has been unveiled on Great Eastern Street, Shoreditch encouraging anyone struggling to reach out to Samaritans this festive season.
The unique design, by GSA’s in house artists, depicts an eye-catching range of flowers in a contemporary style, matched by a poem highlighting how people, just like plants, need a little help sometimes to grow and flourish.
Set across four walls, the mural will be seen over a million times given it’s positioning at one of the most sought-after locations in the country.
Dr. Lee Bofkin, CEO and co-founder at Global Street Art said: “Global Street Art is extremely proud to support Samaritans, especially at Christmas, which can be a very difficult time as feelings of loneliness and isolation can be magnified. My mum has been a Samaritan for almost 25 years now, so this project has huge personal meaning for me too.”
Annabel Davis, Assistant Director of External Communications at Samaritans said: “While Christmas is sometimes labelled ‘the most wonderful time of the year’, we know that, in reality, it can be a particularly tough time for a lot of people.
“Thank you very much to Global Street Art’s amazing mural for encouraging help-seeking and highlighting the support our volunteers will be providing, 24/7, throughout Christmas, in a really creative and imaginative way.
“At Samaritans, we know messages of hope can be life-changing, so this mural – along with its prominent position – will reach a huge number of people and encourage those currently struggling to reach out where they might otherwise have suffered in silence.”
Over the Christmas period last year, Samaritans responded to over 250,000 calls for help, and the charity is anticipating over 14,500 calls this Christmas Day alone.
The mural, which took 12 artist days to complete, is free for the public to view into the New Year.
