Frequently asked questions
I want to use this within my organisation, are there any guidelines or advice you can provide?
We can supply you with an interactive implementation guide with hints and tips about how to roll this out to your organisation.
Do I need to work in the Workplace to access the Learning Tools?
No, they've been developed to be applicable to individuals across the UK and Ireland, and although the video reflects an office-based environment, the learning it delivers will benefit everyone.
I work outside of the UK, can I still register for the Learning Tools?
No, the tools have been designed specifically for a UK and Ireland audience.
I’ve registered but not received a confirmation email. What do I do?
If you’ve not received your confirmation email within 3 hours of registration there may be a number of reasons:
- Check the email address you entered, is it correct? It may be worth re-submitting
- Has it gone into your spam or junk folder?
- It may be that it has been blocked by your organisations firewall or IT security protocols. Is it possible to have [email protected] added to your safe senders list?
If none of these solutions help, please contact our team.
Is there a charge for using the Learning Tools?
No, the tools have been developed by Samaritans to support the emotional wellbeing of individuals and organisations. There is a cost to Samaritans of delivering this service which is currently met by support from the Lord Mayor’s Appeal. If you would like to donate to Samaritans to help fund our vital work, please do so here.
What if I want to do more after completing the Wellbeing in the Workplace Learning modules?
Samaritans always needs volunteers to run our round the clock service. Find out more about how you can support the organisation by giving the gift of your time here.
Why did Samaritans develop this training?
The learning tools have been developed with the financial assistance of PwC and the technical brilliance of Brightwave and are designed to deliver Samaritans’ support and listening skills to a wide audience. At Samaritans, we believe anyone can need help and anyone, with the right knowledge, can provide support. By making our training available in this way, we can bring Samaritans’ skills and Samaritans’ support to the widest possible audience, helping to change and save lives.
Do the tools contain violent or upsetting scenes?
The drama in the learning tool has been written to simulate real life situations and so touches on potentially emotive subjects. There are no scenes of physical violence or harm in any of the video pieces, drama or case studies.
Can I view these tools on my pc, mobile or tablet?
The tools have been designed to be responsive i.e. used across, pc, laptop, smartphone, tablet, iPad etc. The minimum software operating platforms are Windows 7 and above; iOS9 and above; Android 6 (Marshmallow) and above; Windows 8 Pro. The tools may work across other platforms but some features may not be available or function as expected.
The tools won’t load, what can I do?
You may need to allow pop ups in your browser to access the courses. If they are already allowed you don't need to change any settings. If your security settings do not allow pop ups, a message will appear. If you are using Internet Explorer or Firefox you simply need to click on the "allow pop ups from this site option". If you use an alternative browser e.g. Safari or Google Chrome, please type "Allow pop ups in <Name of Browser>" into Google (e.g. "Allow pop ups in Safari") for instructions on how to set up your browser.
Registering/Logging In – Invalid Email Address
Please be aware that in some instances if your details auto fill in the email and password boxes, a space is placed after the end of your email address which means you receive an error message saying your email address is invalid. You can rectify this by deleting the space at the end of your email address.
Can I download or copy these materials to use outside of my organisation?
No. We are giving you access to Samaritans valued training materials. These materials have been developed with the support of the Lord Mayor’s Appeal to strengthen emotional wellbeing and resilience in the workplace. We are happy for you to share these with your colleagues so that as many people as possible benefit from them. Is the learning accredited?
The learning is not currently accredited but it may be something that Samaritans looks to do in the future.
Do I get a certificate?
No, the course has not been designed to provide certificates but the course does have completion tracking within it to show when it is complete.
Is there more learning available to me?
Samaritans has an extensive range of Workplace Training courses available. Please contact our Workplace Training team for more information.
How do I use the Interactive PDF Guide?
The guide is designed as a downloadable PDF. To experience the full range of resources and links within the document we advise that you download it. The document contains information about the benefits of using the tools both organisationally and in wider society and has hints and tips about how to get the most from the tools when rolling them out.
I'm having trouble getting the media to play (video/audio)
If the video or audio is not playing as it should we recommend trying the tools in a different browser. We are aware that in some cases IE is defaulting to an older version so would advise trying Google Chrome.
