Where to get support
To get assistance with a suicidal person
BTP Suicide Hotline: 0300 123 9101 – this is one of the best ways of reporting a suspected suicidal person on the railway to the BTP, and we recommend saving the number in your phone.
Referral of suicidal person to ongoing support
Samaritans, available 24/7 on 116 123 for emotional support.
Support for yourself
- Calling Samaritans on 116 123. Free call, open to anybody. Impartial, confidential and non-judgemental.
- Railway Chaplains - The Railway Mission provides a friendly confidential ear to anyone connected to the railway.
- Speaking to friends and colleagues.
- Peer supporters / mental health first aiders. Some employees have work colleagues who have volunteered to be available for support. They are trained to support their peers.
- Your GP.
- Employee Assistance Programme (EAP). Contact your HR for details. They tend to provide provided a range of services normally including:
- Free Counselling (face to face sessions or sessions over the phone).
- Legal and financial advice.
- Work life support.
- Physical health information and advice.
- Emotional health information and advice.
- Your line manager or HR.
