Listening volunteers
Listening volunteers answer calls and messages from people who really need someone to talk to. You’ll be based in our Aberystwyth branch.
Fundraising volunteers
2 - 6 hours per week over a year to work as part of a team researching, designing and activating fundraising opportunities for the Aberystwyth Samaritans Branch. This can be undertaken remotely from anywhere in Wales. Being bilingual would be an advantage but not essential.
Outreach volunteers
To help communities to help themselves and each other and to make individuals aware of the support Samaritans can offer. This will require volunteers to undertake training, become familiar with the vision and values of Samaritans, understand the resources Samaritans has on offer and how these might be helpfully implemented:
- Veterans Outreach volunteers - to work with communities of serving or former service personnel and their families and organisations that support them to make them aware of the Samaritans resources and the support that is on offer. After initial training, the post will be around 1 day per week. Reasonable travel costs will be reimbursed.
- Schools Outreach volunteers - to work with Secondary Schools across mid Wales to make schools aware of the resources that Samaritans has in place and the services we have available. The volunteers will need to deliver presentations to school staff and so being bilingual would be an advantage. After initial training, the post will be around 1-2 days per week running from September 23 to January 24. Reasonable travel costs will be reimbursed.
- Outreach volunteers - largely male communities - to work with areas where men may congregate or with other third sector organisations to improve signage and awareness of the services that Samaritans offer. There will be a need to deliver presentations and so being bilingual would be an advantage. After initial training, the post will be for around 1-2 days per week and will run from September 23 to January 24. Reasonable travel costs will be reimbursed.
- Rural Outreach volunteers - to develop and implement a strategy for enabling rural communities to be aware of the services that Samaritans has on offer. Implementing the strategy will involve delivering talks in rural areas so being bilingual would be an advantage. After initial training, the post will be for around 1 - 2 days per week running from November 23 to March 24.
- Third Sector Mental Health Outreach volunteers - to develop and implement an engagement strategy with mid Wales third sector organisations who lead on matters relating to mental health and to establish how best Samaritans can contribute to supporting our communities. After initial training, the post will be for around 2 - 6 hours per week and will run for a year. Much of the work can be undertaken anywhere in Wales but where travel is necessary, reasonable travel costs will be reimbursed.
