Lives change when we break the silence.
Every life lost to suicide is a tragedy — a tragedy that leaves a lasting impact on families, friends, and communities. But we know talking can save lives.
When someone is given the chance to open up and talk, lives can change. That moment of human connection can mean a mother still giving her son a comforting hug, a proud dad walking his daughter down the aisle or someone still having their best friend to confide in.
Someone still has their life — and now they know it’s worth living.
Right now someone is calling Samaritans for help and our volunteers are there to listen – 24/7, 365 days a year. Right now someone is having a conversation that could save their life.
With your support, we can be there to listen when people break their silence.
When I was struggling with my mental health a few years ago, I felt alone and unable to carry on with life. A conversation with a Samaritan brought me back from a very dark place — without that call, there is a high likelihood that I wouldn't be here today.

Having someone just listen to you, takes you further away from those feelings of not wanting to be here. And wanting not to be here became a bit quieter…

It’s like having all your thoughts in a tumble dryer – you can’t see them, but when you take them out, explain them and see them individually, you can better see a way through.
Gavin
Growing up, I wouldn't want to open up to anybody. But now I would. Before I was a Samaritan, I would've thought opening up was a weakness, but it's more of a strength to ask for help when you need help. Definitely.

To anyone struggling, it’s really simple—just talk. Talking is the key to finding a way through.

It’s time to break the silence around suicide and it all starts with you.
Samaritans has around 23,000 volunteers who enable us to be here 24/7. We’re here to listen when people are ready to break their silence, whenever that may be, but we couldn’t do it without you.
One donation from you could open up endless possibilities.
A simple donation has the potential to change so many lives – the impact really is endless. With your support, we can continue to be there to listen when life starts to feel overwhelming.
Together, we can break the silence.
