York Samaritans - Real People Real Stories
Samaritans' Real People Real Stories Campaign this year focussed on men in rural communities; one of the case studies featured Michael who first came forward to tell his story to a Volunteer at our stand at the Young Farmers' Rally in 2019.
Michael's words, "the bravest thing you will ever do, is to talk", and this is what he spoke about in his crisis to Volunteers at sessions with York and Harrogate Branches.
I am delighted that Michael visited our stand at the Young Farmers' Rally in Thirsk on 28th May and he remains determined to help Samaritans to persuade people to open up and talk about their worries.
Donations in support of our campaign and to keep the services going that enable us to reach those who are struggling to cope can be made at our Enthuse fundraising page, or by texting 4RCallers and the amount to 70580.
The York branch was founded in 1967 and is one of 202 branches nationwide. All of this is made possible by over 120 volunteers who take calls and answer emails, day and night. Volunteers also help with fundraising, running the Branch, managing our finances etc. This dedication is supported by generous public donations which make up nearly all our income. It currently costs approximately £100 each day to keep us open. Your support in helping us do this is greatly appreciated.
