Super Samaritans Take On The York Dragon Boat Race
On Sunday 12th September a team of intrepid volunteers from York Samaritans will take on the famous Dragon Boat race, Rotary Club York annual charity row down the River Ouse. The team – aptly named Super Samaritans – will be digging deep to raise as much as they can and are looking for your support.
Every day, Samaritans volunteers respond to around 10,000 calls for help, and the York branch alone has over 120 volunteers who give around 18,000 hours a year to support callers in need of emotional support. It costs over £100 each day to keep the branch open so any donations, no matter how small, would be greatly appreciated: https://uk.virginmoneygiving.com/Team/SuperSamaritans.
Two-thirds of all sponsorship will go towards York Samaritans, who have been supporting the York community for over 50 years. The remaining third will go to York Rotary’s nominated charities which are SASH and The Hut (more information here: [https://www.yorkrotary.co.uk/dragon-boat-challenge]).
The racing takes place on the River Ouse in York, between Scarborough Bridge and Lendal Bridge. The first races start at 10am and continue through the day, with the Grand Final taking place at around 4pm. Why not come along and cheer on the team!
We’re really excited to be taking part in the Dragon Boat race and it’s great to be able to get out in the community once again. Samaritans is here for anyone, whatever they’re going through. We’re here to listen and to help people find their own way forward. Please help us to do that.
