Our volunteers spent the day at Winchester Railway Station to remind commuters and travelers that Small Talk Saves Lives
Yesterday, 16 volunteers spent the day at Winchester Railway Station, to raise awareness of Samaritans' Small Talk Saves Lives campaign.
We spoke to more than 500 commuters and travelers on the day, and shared the meaning behind the campaign as well as a reminder that we're always here to listen on 116 123.
Thanks to everyone who came to speak to us, and in particular to our dedicated volunteers who manned the station throughout the day: Carole, David, Wayne, Jo, Brian, Tony, Cliff, SallyAnne, Pat, Ros, Emma, Sue, Liz, Steven, Kevin and Helen.
If you think someone might need help, trust your instincts and start a simple conversation. You could save a life.
Starting conversations with people who are struggling to cope can save lives. But you should always put your personal safety first.
We want to give people the confidence to talk to someone in distress if they feel comfortable to. If you don’t, always find someone else to help or call 999.
You can find out more about what to say and do on our How to Start a Conversation page.
