South West Herts Samaritans (Watford) opened in 1969 when the first Director, Graham, secured premises at 2 Local Board Road. The organisation quickly became part of the local community and is one of the town's oldest charities.
On Saturday 9 November 1991 Watford Samaritans moved to 45 St John's Road, & the new premises were opened by Barbara Windsor. Our aim is to reach out to everyone who is going through a personal crisis and doesn't know where to turn. We offer emotional support on the telephone, by email, and face to face, and we firmly believe that emotional health is just as important as physical health.
The charity is part of the national Samaritans movement and serves five boroughs (Watford, St Albans, Hertsmere, Three Rivers and Dacorum) with a combined population of around 500,000. We are part of the London Region and provide an extensive service for callers and a broad range of outreach within the community.
The area served by South West Herts Samaritans covers Berkhamsted, Bovingdon, Chorleywood, Rickmansworth, Hemel Hempstead, Kings Langley, Watford, Oxhey, St Albans, Potters Crouch, Bricket Wood, Radlett, Bushey, Borehamwood & Elstree.
