When we launched Project 55 just over a year ago, it felt as if we were looking at a long-term goal. Our Branch Leadership Team thought it would take a timeframe of three years or so.
However, with the hard work and commitment of our respective teams, we have reached this milestone before the end of 2024 (our 55th year in operation) - which will secure the future of Samaritans in the town.Walsall Branch Director, Gill said “I am beyond proud to be the Branch Director as we reach our Project 55 target of £250,000 in just over twelve months. This is a huge achievement and the biggest fundraising event in the history of our branch.
This would not have been possible without the huge amount of work by our Fundraising and Project 55 teams - and I thank them for their tireless efforts and commitment - alongside the support of so many within and outside of the branch. Whilst we cannot name everyone who has contributed, we are so grateful to people who have supported the events our branch has hosted, such as our Quiz & Chip night, Fashion Show, Painting and Prosecco Night, along with in-house raffles and a silent auction.
We have received many donations from our local community, including local businesses, shops, church groups, running clubs, a local golf club, plus theLions and Masonic lodges.
The Samaritans community have also helped; we have received some very generous donations from other branches throughout the UK.
Every single donation has contributed to the success of our appeal. This is the best possible Christmas present that any of us could have hoped for and we cannot express how much this means to us all.
We do recognise that since we launched Project 55, building materials and labour costs have increased by at least 20%, so our fundraising will continue. However, we can now enter 2025 with enough funds to progress Project 55and look forward to a bright and positive future for Walsall Samaritans.”
Further details of Project 55 will follow throughout 2025.
