Find out more about Wakefield Samaritans and the services we offer.
Wakefield Samaritans are working to reduce the number of deaths by suicide. We do this by listening, be it on the telephone, by email and (soon!) online chat. We believe that just having someone to listen can help to relieve some of the problem or help to lift a weight. Sometimes, by talking, you can even find a way through your troubles. We don't give advice, judge you or tell anyone what you've told us. Our service is, and will continue to be, free.
We offer:
- Schools Talks - DEAL and support after suicide.
- Workplace Talks - Emotional health and giving emotional support.
- Outreach Events - Supporting community events and organisations.
- Prisoner Listening Service - Training prisoners to be Samaritans to other prisoners.
- Training Room - Local organisations may use our space.
- Face-to-Face - Emotional support in branch.
- Network Rail Support

Our Volunteers
We have 123 active volunteers (August 2019) working in our shop, answering calls, fundraising, conducting outreach in our local districts and supporting our branch in other ways like looking after our building and administrative work. Everyone who helps Wakefield Samaritans to keep going is part of our team and we are very grateful for their time and support.
Could you be one of us?

Shop
Our shop at 84 Kirkgate is a hive of hidden treasures, and always looking for extra support! The funds we raise here help to support our branch and the work we do, from taking phone calls to keeping the lights on. We need more volunteers to keep the shop open and giving a few hours of your time a week could make a huge difference.
We desperately need volunteers to support our shop.
Volunteer a few hours now.
