Could you volunteer with us?
We always love to welcome new volunteers to Wakefield
Ann 13 , Director of Wakefield Samaritans
How can you help?
There are so many things that keep our branch going. While you may be looking for the kind of role that you hear the most about, such as being a listening volunteer, there are so many more things you can do to support us.
Shop
Our charity shop always needs volunteers to keep the shop open. This involves handling money, moving and pricing stock, deciding what can be sold, rearranging things and helping customers. If you are a friendly person who wants to help, you're exactly what we need!
Written Word
If talking on the phone isn't for you or you have an impairment that makes this difficult for you but you still would like to volunteer, written word may be for you! Answering emails is just as important as our work on the phones and we value anyone who volunteers for us. Could it be you?
Fundraising
Every penny we get to support our work is well needed. Our volunteers may support us only in this way by organising events and helping to carry them out. An organised and creative individual can make a huge difference to our fundraising team. We need you!
Why volunteer with us?
We are always looking for more volunteers and there are so many reasons to volunteer with us.
- Making new friends.
- Helping others.
- Developing skills.
- Work experience.
- DofE or NCS.
- You have some free time.
To hear stories from some of our volunteers and what they feel they get out of the experience, see Patricia's story and Rita's story.
Accessibility
Nothing can stop you.
If you have any accessibility needs, be it physical disability or mental disability, we will do our best to make volunteering a good experience for you. From written word only volunteers to those with visual impairments or learning difficulties - we'd love to hear from you to discuss volunteering and if we'd be a good fit.
To volunteer please email us. We will endeavour to reply as soon as possible however please be aware that our mailboxes are monitored by volunteers who may not always be available. For general enquiries (not emotional support) please see our contact page.
We need more volunteers.
