Hillingdon Samaritans aim to reach as many people as possible who might need our support. So we don’t just wait for people to contact us
We look for alternative ways to reach out to people in the community who would otherwise not be able, or feel able, to contact us.
To do this, Hillingdon Samaritans have an Outreach team working with local organisations and supporting events to raise awareness of our service.
In the last 12 months our programme of outreach has included visits to the Hayes branch of ASDA, Hayes Muslim Centre, Hayes and Harlington and West Drayton stations, RAF Northolt, Brunel University and Border Force at Heathrow.
Through our active involvement in the community, we gain a greater understanding of what we can offer to the people who live and work in Hillingdon.
Our regular outreach programme includes:
Railway stations
In partnership with Network Rail, Great Western Railway and the Elizabeth Line, Hillingdon Samaritans actively support Hayes & Harlington and West Drayton Stations to try to reduce the incidence of suicide on the railways. We organise regular awareness-raising visits to the stations where our Listening Volunteers talk to station users and distribute publicity materials.
Schools and Universities
Our trained team of volunteers are available to visit schools and can offer a School Assembly talk in which we focus on emotional resilience and the importance of finding ways of coping with stressful situations. Through visiting schools, we hope to give young people the knowledge that we are available to listen and support them should they need it.
We also support local Colleges and Universities, attending events such as the Brunel University Freshers Fair, to raise awareness of our service.
Community Groups and Events
We attend many community events in Hillingdon, such as Carers Fair, Day of the Older Person and many more. At these events, we hope to raise awareness of our work and be on hand to give support to anyone in need of emotional support.
