Supporting Passenger Safety and Wellbeing
On November 1st, Tamworth Samaritans joined Network Rail staff at Tamworth Station to support their Passenger Safety Event.
Our role was to highlight the importance of staying safe on the railway—at stations, on trains, and around the tracks—while also offering emotional support to anyone passing through. Samaritans has maintained a close partnership with Network Rail for many years due to the significant number of incidents on and around the railway. The event was a great success, with many meaningful conversations taking place between our volunteers, passengers, and staff.
Looking ahead, on Thursday, December 12th, we’re taking our support on the move with an initiative called ‘Sams on Trains.’
A group of our volunteers will travel on trains to provide emotional support to passengers. Three of us will journey to London Euston to join Network Rail staff for an event there, while another group will head to Liverpool Station. Along the way, we’ll distribute leaflets and engage with passengers, offering support to anyone in need. If successful, we plan to expand this initiative, further strengthening our partnership with Network Rail and reaching even more people.
