Our branch has been awarded a National Lottery grant for an innovative publicity project.
Stockport & District Samaritans are celebrating today after being awarded £6655 in funding from The National Lottery Community Fund, the largest funder of community activity in the UK.
Stockport Samaritans will use the funding to donate branded mugs and provide publicity material to the “Warm Spaces” that Stockport Council has identified to provide a warm safe environment for people to go to during the day. Their ‘warm spaces’ are free to use and provide free food and hot drinks. This would raise awareness of Samaritans’ service to those who are suffering the cost-of-living crisis and social isolation.
They will also donate our branded ‘awareness’ mugs to construction sites across the local community and to deliver ‘toolbox talks’ to construction workers. This will raise awareness of the service to an industry that has the highest incidence of suicide in any sector.
The project will last a year, but the deliveries will be starting very soon. Lynn, Stockport Branch Director said:
“This grant means that we can raise awareness of our service to those who are suffering the cost-of-living crisis, social isolation and may have mental health issues. This will make a big difference in people’s lives.”
During the pandemic, in 2020 alone, The National Lottery Community Fund distributed almost £1 billion to charities and community organisations across the UK.
