How we can help
Scunthorpe Samaritans - About us
At Scunthorpe Samaritans, we are dedicated to providing vital support to individuals who are feeling upset, overwhelmed, or struggling to cope with life's challenges, including those experiencing suicidal thoughts. Our commitment to helping others is reflected in the fact that Samaritans' answer a call every 10 seconds and respond to thousands of emails every year.
This year, we proudly celebrate 60 years of Scunthorpe Samaritans - a significant milestone that reflects our longstanding dedication to the community. Based closed to Scunthorpe town centre in Lindum Street, our branch serves the entire North Lincolnshire area. Our team of 75 dedicated volunteers, representing diverse backgrounds and life experiences, work tirelessly around the clock to ensure that Samaritans 24-hour service is available to those in need. We are continually seeking compassionate people who wish to volunteer with us and make a difference in our community.
In addition to our support services, we operate a charity shop on Ashby High Street, staffed by 25 wonderful volunteers. The income generated from this shop directly supports our activities within North Lincolnshire.
We also run a prisons outreach program and a comprehensive community outreach initiative, allowing us to extend our support even further. We invite you to learn more about our work and the impact we have on the lives of those we serve. If you're interested in finding out more or getting involved, please don't hesitate to get in touch.

Bonfire Night at Scunthorpe Rugby Club
We are co-sponsoring this years Bonfire Night celebration at Scunthorpe Rugby Club - Heslam Park. Gates open on Tuesday 5th November at 5.30pm.
Adults: £6, Under 16's: £4, Family Tickets: £16
We like to sponsor sports teams and events connected with sport, not only for the visibility and awareness raising, but because there is an important link between good physical health and good emotional health. We are pleased to sponsor this event with Hornsby's, who have the amazing Samaritans bus that regularly serves routes in North Lincolnshire.
New volunteers in training
We have six people who are in training to become Samaritans listening volunteers and they are all doing very well and learning important new skills that will be important in supporting callers to our telephone line and email service.
We try to run a training program every quarter, so if you are interested in volunteering with us please get in touch.
You don't need formal qualifications or previous counselling experience to volunteer for Samaritans as we provide all the training necessary. The only requirements are to be kind and caring, with a willingness to listen to people in confidence and without judgement.
All calls/emails are taken at the Samaritans centre in Scunthorpe and we ask volunteers to give three hours per week, including some time each quarter during antisocial and night hours to support Samaritans 24-hour service.
