A fabulous day for cyclists at Samsride 2022
285 cyclists took part in this year's Samsride, Salisbury and District Samaritans annual on-competitive charity cycle sportive and the biggest fundraising event the branch runs. The ride is now recognised as one of the premier charity cycle sportives in the Hampshire and Wiltshire region.
68 riders cycled the full 100 miles, 150 did the sporty 50 miles and 67 riders pedalled 25 miles - including our oldest entrant who was 81!
This was the 7th Samsride event and over the years over 3000 cyclists have raised nearly £150,000 of vital funds which keep the Salisbury branchof Samaritans open.
Paul Jordan, branch director, said “Thank you so much to all the cyclists who made Samsride 2022 such a great day. We were told by many that it was the perfect weather for cycling and there was a real buzz of energy and fun even at 7 o'clock in the morning!
“Salisbury and District Samaritans has approximately 100 listening and support volunteers who provide an incredibly valuable service, each year. Our listening volunteers deal with over 20,000 calls and emails from people who are in emotional crisis and in need of immediate emotional support. Our support volunteers help us to raise money or promote our services, organise events, keep our computers working or contribute to the many administrative roles that keep our branch running smoothly. Every Samaritans branch is expected to raise their own funds to provide for their local service so our volunteers are grateful to everyone who supports the branch through giving donations or by taking part in our fundraising activities.”
