New Duty station opened in his memory
This weekend, on September 29th, we are proud to formally open a new duty station at our Redbridge Branch in memory of Mukash Shant (1959-2024). This has been made possible by the generosity of Mukash's community and family, and stands as a testament to his enduring spirit of kindness and service.
A Man of Many Passions
Born to Chaman Lal and Santosh Shant, a proud father to Arjun, Krishan, and Rahul, and eldest brother to Vijay, Nirmal, Nishi, Madhu & Raj, Mukash was known for his incredible kindness and generosity. Having spent his early years in India before moving to the UK as a child, Mukash became an integral part of the East London community where he lived most of his adult life.
Mukash's intellectual curiosity knew no bounds. He was an avid enthusiast of films, books, and sports, possessing a wealth of knowledge on various topics. His love for football, particularly Arsenal, has inspired generations of fans within the Shant family.
A Life of Warmth and Generosity
Mukash was a beacon of compassion in his community. "Mukesh's life made the universe feel a little safer and a little warmer for everyone around him."
Those who knew Mukash often remarked that there was "no better person to have in your corner than Mukash; he would be there for anyone, anytime who needed him." This selfless nature led him to become a dedicated volunteer for the Samaritans.
Fellow volunteers fondly remember working alongside Mukash, noting his positive attitude, supportive nature, and constant flow of suggestions and motivation. His enthusiasm for the Samaritans' mission was so infectious that it inspired even his neighbours to volunteer.
Remembering Mukash
As Mukash’s family explain, "Losing Mukash has been extremely painful for all of us, but we are pleased that the donations made in his memory will go on to provide hours of support for those in need through the Samaritans, a charity that Mukash spent his time supporting and championing."
The new listening booth will provide up to 1,000 additional hours of support each year to those in need of emotional assistance.
We are humbled and inspired by Mukash Shant's life and the impact he continues to have. A commemorative plaque will be installed at the new duty station, serving as a permanent reminder of Mukash's legacy of kindness and the incredible generosity of his community.
