We're looking for everyday people just like you, to fulfil a range of listening or non-listening roles. If you are open, empathetic and non-judgemental, volunteer with us!
Selection and Training
After applying via our website samaritans.org/support-us/volunteer, you will be invited to an informal interview and, if you’re successful, you’ll start your training with us.
We usually run training courses twice a year, in the spring and autumn. Training courses last approximately 5-8weeks, and training sessions take place weekly, usually on weekday evenings. There are also some on-line tutorials to complete. During this time, trainees are given all the help and support they need from experienced Samaritans.
Being a 'listening' Samaritan is not something everyone feels comfortable with, so at any time during the process, you may decide not to continue. If you feel you would like to help in some other way, then there are many other volunteering roles available!
If you have any questions or would like further information please email Perth@samaritans.org
Volunteering Hours
We ask volunteers to do to one shift every week, shifts are usually 3 hours long. This includes; one shift overnight every four weeks and one Sunday shift every four weeks. The shift patterns run throughout the day and evenings and weekends, so even if you work full-time, there should be a shift available that suits your schedule.
