With 'Brew Monday' fast approaching, ask not what your branch can BREW for you; ask what YOU can BREW for your branch...
The third Monday in January - 'Blue Monday' - is said to be 'the most difficult day of the year', but Pendle Samaritans know difficult days can happen no matter what the date.
To help us through, make a brew.
Make a brew?
Yup.
Literally make a brew or two; that's what Samaritans' 'Brew Monday' is all about.
Grab a drink for you and someone you care about, sit down and have a good chat.
How does that help?
Sitting down in a comfortable spot with someone you trust - in person or virtually - and talking through how life's been treating you, is a great way to help improve our emotional well-being.
Similarly, letting someone else get things off of their chest and really listening to them, can help them to feel understood, cared for, and not alone.
Sounds good. What else can I do for 'Brew Monday'?
You could always host your own 'Brew Monday' event.
This could be something like a meet up with friends, a virtual get-together at work, or hosting your very own tea-party, complete with lots of special 'Brew Monday' material.
Don't forget, if you use your event to raise money for Pendle Samaritans, you'll help to ensure we can be there for anyone who needs us.
Just £5 can help us answer a call from someone who's struggling emotionally, and needs a place to talk.
If you'd like to fundraise for us and need a bit more guidance, please don't hesitate to leave a phone message on:

Now that I know what I can do for 'Brew Monday' - does it have to be a brew?
Nope. You could sit down over an orange juice, cola, vimto - whatever floats your boat.
Does it have to be on Monday 17th January 2022?
No.
Although the official ‘Blue Monday’ and ‘Brew Monday‘ dates are set for the 17th, Samaritans ‘Brew Monday’ events can take place any time this winter.
Events don't need to take place on a Monday either, just at a time and place convenient for you.
So - how can I be a good listener?
The main thing you need to do to be a good listener is to...well... listen.
It sounds a bit obvious, but it's a skill we can all work on.
Really listening to someone can mean different things to different people, but what it often includes is:
- Not interrupting someone
- Not offering advice
- Not trying to solve their problems for them
For some great suggestions on how to become a good listener take a look at Samaritans' SHUSH active listening tips and little tips to help someone open up.
Any other ways that I can help?
Oh, absolutely.
Whether you'd like to fundraise for us, donate to us or even volunteer with us, Pendle Samaritans are always grateful to those wanting to get involved.
Our branch raises its own funds, so it really is with your help that Pendle branch stays open and running.
Together, we can make Mondays a little less 'Blue' and a lot more 'Brew'.
