Pendle branch volunteer, Alan, cycles 100k across London in one night to raise money for Samaritans
Alan Ingham, has volunteered at Pendle branch since 2005.
He has given thousands of hours of his time to answer the phone and listen to callers in need.
But Alan always goes the extra mile, and in his 17 years as a Samaritan, has taken on many challenges to raise much needed funds for the critical, 24/7 listening service provided by the charity.
This weekend was his biggest yet.
The London Nightrider challenge - an after-dark cycling event which consists of both 100k and 50k routes - takes in some of the most iconic landmarks in the capital city, all under the night sky.
Raising money for Samaritans, Alan joined the London Nightrider 100k challenge on Saturday evening, cycling the whole 100 kilometres around London in a single night.
Despite the enormous undertaking, Alan completed this formidable feat around 7am, passing many famous landmarks such as Tower Bridge, Piccadilly Circus, and the London Eye, along the way.
On Sunday morning, just after finishing, Alan said:
How do! I finally finished the 100k London cycling event. I got my medal. I admit I was struggling near the end, and nearly threw the towel in a couple of miles away. But I cracked on. I’m glad I finished, and thank you to those who have taken the effort to sponsor me for the event. Honestly, thank you.
Congratulations Alan!
Thank you for everything you do for Samaritans.
