On 11th October, local politicians were invited to an Open Day at the Samaritans of Newry & Dundalk to hear about the services we provide.
As part of an outreach project, local politicians from across the region were invited to visit our branch and discover what it is Samaritans do and how the volunteers from the Newry & Dundalk regions play a role in the wider Samaritans network.
After tea and cakes, the politicians were welcomed by our Director, Martin, and this was followed by presentations from several of our volunteers, all showcasing the wonderful work they do to help people in distress.
With local councillors, MLAs and even an MP attending, it was a fantastic opportunity to talk to the people who make political decisions at a local, regional and national level. It provided our volunteers the opportunity to talk about issues that many of our callers face and helped to remind the politicians about the service we provide.
A huge thank you to everyone who attended. The support is greatly appreciated.
