One of our volunteers from the Samaritans of Newry & Dundalk has completed an amazing sponsored swim in Camlough Lake, raising over £1,250 for the branch!
One of our dedicated volunteers, Creina, has once again taken the plunge and threw herself into the deep end with a 1km sponsored swim around Camlough Lake.
Along with her two good friends, Deirdre and Pauline, the trio donned their wet-suits and entered the water on a beautiful sunny day in June. No stranger to the water, this is Creina's third year completing this swim on behalf of the Samaritans of Newry & Dundalk.
With hardly a pause for a breath, the trio finished the 1km trip in a fantastic time.
Between the three swimmers, they managed to raise an incredible £1,246.39 + €100!
Thank you so much to Creina, her friends, and everyone who sponsored them. This money will go towards making sure the Samaritans of Newry & Dundalk can keep providing a vital service to the local community and the wider nationwide community.
Our branch is staffed entirely by volunteers and we do not receive government funding so every penny can help ensure we are able to keep operating from our Newry base as we have done since 1973.
Creina is one of around 100 volunteers in our branch who give up their time to help others in need by answering phone calls, emails and texts from people who are in emotional distress. We also provide a drop in service from our branch at 19 St. Colman's Park, Newry.
