18 Samaritans volunteers including Barbara Flinn from Manchester branch have been made Platinum Champions, a special award created as part of the Queen's Jubilee celebrations.

Nominated because: A volunteer of 51 years, Barbara was nominated as she promotes kindness, understanding and support to other volunteers within the branch ensuring a caring culture. After joining the Samaritans at just 24 years old, Barbara has been branch secretary and Branch Director and now at the age of 75 continues with weekly shifts, including overnight.
As Samaritans, we don’t seek the limelight; are happy in the knowledge that we are helping other people in their darkest hours; are supported by the love and fellowship of other Samaritans. I feel that I represent all the other unsung volunteers.
