Macclesfield Samaritans hope to raise awareness, connect with the community and spread some birthday cheer at the Treacle Market on 24 September, in celebration of their 60th anniversary.
Unfortunately due to bad weather September's Treacle Market event was cancelled. We hope to rearrange something in the near future. Raffle tickets are still available to purchase.
Samaritans of Macclesfield & District first opened its doors in 1963 and has been offering emotional support to people in the local community and nationwide ever since. This means that 2023 marks their 60th anniversary and to celebrate this impressive diamond milestone, Macclesfield Samaritans have secured a stall at the Treacle Market on Sunday 24 September. Their aim is to connect with the community, raise awareness of what they do and also continue to raise vital funds to help run the branch.
Samaritans believe that providing a safe, non-judgmental space to talk can help people speak freely, explore their own difficulties and find ways to cope. Often simply having a brew with a loved one or friend can be the perfect time to check in on someone’s well being and support them. A coffee shop can offer that safe place and so the partnership of local businesses supporting the charitable work of Macclesfield Samaritans is a perfect fit.
While Samaritans is a charity working across the UK and Ireland, many don’t realise each branch is self-funded. This means the Macclesfield branch is responsible for raising sufficient funds to run their offices branch, including rental costs and overheads as well as buying equipment and materials.
As such the branch relies on donations to help fund their life-saving work, along with the income from their charity shop. The shop, again run solely by our volunteers is based in Pickford Street, Macclesfield, and will be open on Treacle Market Sunday to continue with the birthday celebrations.
The shop will be selling tickets for the raffle throughout September.
