What a year; we couldn’t have done it without you!
It's the first ever Samaritans Thanking Day on Wednesday 3rd February and it’s focused entirely on thanking the brilliant supporters and donors who have helped make our life-saving work possible this last year. And what a year it’s been. Simply put – without your support, we just couldn’t have achieved everything we did.
Support from so many people and businesses in so many ways enables our volunteers like Hanie to carry out their valuable work and looking back at the last 12 months, it’s so clear how valuable that support has been. With an unprecedented increase in calls, our branch, like every other Samaritans branch across the UK and Ireland needs donations to help fund our work.
Being there for others in their time of need and making a difference in the community are very satisfying and rewarding life experiences.
Hanie - Samaritans of Macclesfield & District Listening Volunteer
In 2020 we tackled not only coping with the new and difficult challenges the pandemic heaped upon us, but also a move to new branch premises that now provides a more flexible layout, better accessibility and a more supportive environment for our volunteers. We received fantastic support from individuals, the private and public sector and the media, helping us logistically and financially as well as by promoting the service we offer, and how we continue to play an important role in our local community.
During a year when no-one has been left unaffected by the pandemic, the kindness and generosity we have experienced from those who support the work we do is even more remarkable. I am immensely proud of our volunteers who give their time freely to deliver a service that is needed more than ever, and enormously grateful to the sponsors, donors and champions who enable us to keep that service open 24/7. Thank you for all that you do to support us.
Helen Beech - Samaritans of Macclesfield & District Branch Director
Last year over 41,000 new donors signed up to support our charity. Every day, Samaritans volunteers respond to around 10,000 calls for help and we are there for anyone who’s struggling to cope, and who needs someone to listen without judgement or pressure. Thank you again to everyone who’s helped our wonderful volunteers help those who needed us.
Keep an eye on our social media channels this week (Twitter & Instagram) and join us as we thank the special people, businesses and organisations that have helped Samaritans of Macclesfield & District.
