We've been clocking up the miles in September....
Stop Press! We did it!
Following on from our original post below, with the wonderful assistance of our Lancaster City Council friends, we didn’t just do the trip once, nor twice; by the end of the month we were just 46 miles short of completing the trip 3 times! An amazing performance by everyone involved.
For the record then, the Samaritans team covered a staggering 1015 miles during September, or 1633 km. When you add in the Council teams amazing ’Samarathon in one Day’ efforts, which collectively added another 366.8 miles (590.3 km), we travelled 1382 miles or 2223 km! Put another way, we managed to get to Cologne in Germany and back!
How did we do on the fundraising? Well, the final numbers are still being worked out and cash donations collected, but it looks like we will have raised around £3500!
It only remains to give a heartfelt thanks to all those who generously donated to the cause and of course to the Samaritans and Council friends who took part in Samarathon this year; the blisters, cramp and pulled muscles were all worth it!
Sponsorship is coming in to contribute to our Moving On project. If you would like to support us, you can donate here.
Our original post:
As part of Samarathon, 15 of our wonderful volunteers set out to run or walk 26.2 miles each during September - they have so far completed an amazing 477 miles. We were aiming to complete the equivalent of the return distance between our branch and Samaritans HQ in Surrey (476 miles) so have passed that with plenty of time to spare.
We are very grateful to 15 Lancaster City Council employees who are supporting us - they have set themselves to complete 26.2 miles in one day, on 27th September. Wish them luck and hope for good weather!
