Samaritans volunteers are ordinary people. We come from all walks of life and all backgrounds and cultures, but we have one thing in common: we are all very good listeners.
Listening Volunteers
To ensure that we are able to continue to offer support to those in need we are looking for listening volunteers who can spare 3 to 4 hours each week. We ask our volunteers to do 42 listening shifts a year, including 10 night shifts. You don’t need any formal qualifications, just a natural ability to listen non-judgementally and offer emotional support. All volunteers receive special training in listening skills before going ‘live’ on the phones and are then paired with a mentor for their initial shifts.
Support Volunteers
The branch is run entirely by volunteers, so there are always lots of jobs to do. If you don't think that being a listening volunteer is right for you, there are other ways you can support us such as organising events, providing IT or administrative support, fundraising or marketing services.
