Welcome to Samaritans of Inverness

Samaritan’s Inverness branch was founded in 1973 and is located in the heart of Inverness, a short walk from the bus station and railway station. We take calls from all over the UK, but our volunteers come from across the largest geographical area of any branch in the UK, from Tain in the north and Aviemore in the south, to Lochcarron in the west and Nairn to the east. Our branch is completely self-funded, and we rely on our 35 volunteers to stay open and support those struggling to cope.

We are not currently open for face-to-face visits, but our volunteers continue to use the branch to provide telephone and email support. Last year in Inverness:

  • Our volunteers took 6,220 phone calls,
  • We were on the phone for 1,558 hours,
  • Our new volunteers undertook over 40 hours of training,
  • We reached our community through 50 hours of outreach.

What are Samaritans of Inverness up to?

Our Outreach Team visit diverse local events: highland games, agricultural shows, charity events, shopping centres and music festivals. Alongside this we visit the University of the Highlands and Islands and deliver prison support and workplace-based training on mental well-being.
