Last weekend Peter and Jenni took part in the 40th Samaritans National Walk and completed their 12.5 miles through the wind and rain to raise funds for Samaritans of North Herts and Stevenage.
"What an appalling day to walk 12½ miles in such lovely countryside! It began raining just before the start and apart from a brief clear spell after about 2½ miles we were in the clouds with a pretty strong wind and rain. So it was heads down and very little social chat with fellow walkers even at checkpoints during refreshment. We did hear curlews but never saw any wildlife apart from sheep and slugs!! We were able to socialise more at the evening “do” when there was some nice “thank yous” particularly to the Teesside long standing volunteer who organised the 1st walk 40 years ago and helped again before her retirement from Sams after 51 years this week."
