Starting Thursday 3 December, local father of two Nick Jemetta plans to wear 12 different Christmas-themed fancy dress costumes to 12 days’ worth of work video calls.
Nick's aim is to create festive cheer, joy and laughter for the elderly, isolated and lonely in his local community.
Nick is no stranger to fancy dress, having raised more than £4,000 for charity and being featured on the Zoe Ball Radio 2 breakfast show during the first lockdown, when he wore 20 different costumes to create more conversations about mental health.
He wants to keep those conversations going and having recognised that this Christmas will be like no other, wants to support the mental health of those in the local community who are most at risk of feeling isolated and lonely. His challenge aims to raise money for Samaritans of North Herts & Stevenage and also Age UK Hertfordshire. With his own lived experience of mental ill health, Nick knows how what it’s like to feel isolated and alone.
“This year has been challenging for so many. Christmas is usually a time where we get together with family and friends, but no-one knows if that is going to be possible. For the elderly, isolated and vulnerable in our community I want to do something to bring them some festive cheer. Choosing to raise money for Age UK Herts and North Herts Samaritans means these incredible charities can continue to provide support to local people who need it the most. Taking on this challenge again has demonstrated the incredible spirit of our local community. Many of the costumes I’m going to wear were supplied at significant discount by Dance of Hitchin. I want to say a huge thank you to them – I’ve got some cracking costumes planned.”
