Steve Johnson, a listening volunteer at the Hastings and Rother Samaritans, is embarking on a 40 day bike ride in aid of Samaritans.
Samaritans volunteer Steve Johnson will be undertaking a monumental bike ride in 2019, starting from Hastings and ending in Shetland.
Spanning 1,600 miles, Steve's journey will last 40 days, visiting 29 Samaritans branches along the way.
Steve's aim is not only to raise funds for Samaritans, but also to raise awareness of what the charity does, as well as encouraging others to volunteer. In his own words: "It's something I feel that I want to promote, particularly getting people who might be on the cusp of volunteering, to get in touch with us."
Steve will be setting off on April 15th 2019 from the Hastings and Rother Samaritans and finishing his journey in Lerwick on May 23rd. Volunteers from a variety of Samaritans branches will be joining Steve across different legs of the journey, and Steve hopes that members of the public will want to ride alongside him. "Everyone is welcome if they think they can do it and raise a bit of money for the Samaritans too."
