So many people have it in them to be a Samaritan volunteer...to touch another person's life when it really matters.
What is it like to volunteer with Gloucester Branch?
Our service is freely available to anyone at any time, offering emotional support to people when they are struggling to cope.
Could this be an opportunity to share your existing abilities and talents, learn new skills, meet new people and, most importantly, be there for someone when they are in need?
Volunteering Opportunities
Listening Volunteer: This is perhaps the type of volunteering that we are best known for. Our support service is provided entirely by volunteers and we listen to our callers by telephone from our branch in Gloucester. Shifts are between 3 and 4 hours long and it is expected that a Samaritan will do 6 shifts every 6 weeks which will include one night shift and one weekend shift.
You’ll receive full training to prepare you for the kinds of conversations you’ll have. And when you start out, you’ll have a mentor with you, to give you confidence that you’re doing the right thing. There is close ongoing support too.
Support Volunteer: Provide support to the branch to perform other essential tasks that help to keep us open and available around the clock. Roles might include admin, fundraising and IT. Support volunteers are a valuable part of our team.
Helping People At Difficult Times
Every 10 seconds someone contacts us. Every 10 seconds we can help someone turn their life around. As a volunteer with Samaritans, you get the chance to make a real difference to someone’s future.
