SAMARITANS of Glasgow is preparing to mark its 60th anniversary this year with a series of events that will celebrate its volunteers' achievement in offering in excess of one million hours of listening to people in need since the branch opened on May 23, 1960.
The festivities will begin on Sunday, April 26, when dozens of volunteers, friends and family will trek 26 miles from Glasgow to Loch Lomond as part of the annual Kilt Walk.
This fun day out will also help to raise funds for the branch. Walkers can also take part in the 13-mile Big Stroll from Clydebank or six-mile Wee Wander from Dumbarton, all finishing at Victoria Park in Alexandria.
On Friday, May 8, talented actress Amy Conway will be raising awareness of mental health issues and the work of Samaritans of Glasgow by performing her inspiring one-woman play Super Awesome World at the city's Flourish House.
This event will be part of Glasgow Mental Health Arts Festival – and all profits from ticket sales go to the branch.
And the highlight of the year will be a Civic Reception in Glasgow City Chambers at 1pm on Monday, June 7. All active volunteers will be invited.
Other events are also at the planning stage to help commemorate this milestone. Stay tuned!
