When and why did you start volunteering for Samaritans of Farnborough & District?
I became a Samaritan just over four years ago, and had been looking to volunteer for a while. I just felt that the Samaritans was the right choice because they deal with everything. My main reason for joining was to just try and give something back and help people.
What’s the most rewarding aspect of being a Samaritans of Farnborough & District volunteer?
There are many rewarding factors of being a Samaritan, but the main one is being there for people when they really need you, and if you can help in any way that is a massive honour. Another great part about being a Samaritan is the wonderful people you meet from all walks of life, and I am glad to say I have made many good friends in my time at Samaritans.
Why should others in the community volunteer for organisations like Samaritans of Farnborough & District?
I would say to anyone thinking of becoming a Samaritan, it is probably one of the best things I have ever done. You learn so much about yourself and just being there when somebody really needs you is quite humbling. So whatever organisation you are thinking of joining, just go for it. It could change your life, it certainly has mine.
If you are going through a tough time and need to talk to someone, Samaritans volunteers are available 24/7, 365 days a year. Call free on 116 123 or email [email protected].
