After a period of closure for refurbishment, Edinburgh & the Lothians Branch is open
After four weeks, we are pleased to announce that our branch refurbishment is complete and we are open to the public again. The last four weeks has seen our building at Torphichen Street undergo renovation to allow us to continue to support the people within our community.
The branch at 25 Torphichen Street first opened in March 1995, when the branch moved premises to adopt a better listening position within Edinburgh as our previous building had no access for the disabled. Built in the mid-19th century, Torphichen Street has seen the branch in Edinburgh grow from strength to strength. However, in the last few years, it has been clear that the premises needed to be upgraded to ensure we could stay in such a central place for everyone who uses or visits the branch.
Keeping the classic period features of the building, the rooms where our volunteers give their time to support people & train future volunteers have been upgraded to ensure we can give support to everyone who needs us. These changes coincide with our branch's 60th year of listening, and whilst we are looking to the future, the renovation has given us reflections of our past and moments to remember the work of past volunteers. Their work and our history is the foundation of the future of the branch in Edinburgh with our volunteers being at the heart of it. We are indebted to the team of volunteers who have project managed the renovation for the branch and the contractors who have carried out the work.
