Tails of the wise gardener & his friend Jack Frost raises funds for our branch
Tails of the Wise Gardener and his friend Jack Frost
Our branch is indebted to local author, Ken Houston and his illustrator, Aileen Crosbie for donating the profits of their book to our branch.
The tails of the wise gardener started 40 years ago when Ken took his infant daughter to his allotment and told her a story about a silly potato. During the Covid 19 lock-down, Ken's daughter inspired him to write more stories and have them printed into a book. Former-listening volunteer at our branch and amateur artist, Aileen Crosbie, was asked to illustrate the stories after she sent Ken a thank-you card with cartoon birds on a garden fence.
The book costs £5, and £2 of this is being donated to our branch. Ken and Aileen chose to raise money for us because of the uniqueness of our service, and the dedication of our volunteer who are there to support people who need to talk, 24 hours a day, every day of the year. To date, they have raised over £300 for us.
Copies of the book are available at our charity shop at 136 Nicolson Street, Edinburgh.
