We have twelve volunteer teams participating in this year's Samarathon!
This summer all of our traditional fundraising and outreach events have been cancelled due to Covid-19. However, we have twelve teams taking part in this year's Samarathon, all of whom are raising funds and awareness of our branch.
Our biggest team - Tynedale Running Friends - is led by Bridget, who is both a listening volunteer and rota manager for our branch. She and thirteen members of the Tynedale Harriers, aged between 40 and 74, have all run 26.2 miles over four days.
We have three generations walking with our Director Lynn - she is accompanied by her daughter and grandchildren including Chester (see photo above).
A couple of teams include dogs - Andrea is accompanied by her golden retriever Rosie who is actually swimming most of her Samarathon, and Danielle is occasionally joined by Max. Andrea and Danielle are members of our fundraising team, and carry out listening duties.
One team member is incorporating the couch to 5k into her activities and attempting to involve her 16 year old. As our publicity officer, she's keen to promote our branch activities as well as raising funds. She's posting photos of our branch and various landmarks that connect us to our community partners on her fundraising page. If you would like to support our branch and find more about our community work check out her fundraising account.
We also have Toni, Sarah, Denise, Rhiannon, Sue and Keith, along with some of their families, taking part and we are so grateful to all of them.
Regular updates and photos from everybody's runs, swims and walks are being posted on our twitter account - @DurhamSams - so please follow us and help us the spread the word about our endeavours by re-tweeting any posts you particularly like.
Thank you!
