Every year we are contacted over 28,000 times for help
Some of these calls will have been from people who have read about us on our website, or picked up one of our leaflets, or seen our posters.
Some people will tell us “I've just heard about you somehow” - well, we have been running for the best part of 66 years now so our name is pretty well known.
Some will have got in touch because a friend or family member has used us before. And some will have rung because their doctor has recommended us
We are pleased and proud to support the work of the health service. While we are not qualified to give medical advice, we are trained to support people who are upset or troubled, whatever the reason. And because we are all volunteers, we can give you the time you need to talk about what’s on your mind, whether it’s related to a medical problem or not
Just recently we received a lovely email from a local GP. You can see it below.
Thank you. It made our day
“The Samaritans provide an invaluable service and I have given their number to many patients. Just knowing they are there is a comforting back up for some. I have enormous respect and admiration for the volunteers”.
