Villagers in Brinklow, Warwickshire chose us as one of two local organisations to benefit from their 2021 Picnic in the Park
The Picnic was originally due to take place on 4 July 2021, one of the many events planned to thank individuals and organisations across the country who had supported their local communities throughout the pandemic. Ironically the event had to be postponed owing to coronavirus safety regulations but it proved a great success on its new date of 1 August.
The Picnic was the first village event since the pandemic and a raffle supported by local businesses, stalls and a bouncy castle (generously provided free of charge by Horts Estate Agents) raised enough to donate £500 each to Coventry Samaritans and the Revel Surgery. Live music was provided by Chris and Claire, two of our enthusiastic and highly musically talented volunteers.
Coventry Samaritans has continued to provide its free 24 hour helpline throughout all periods of lockdown and other restrictions.
Local event organiser Jeanette Lomas said "we wanted the money raised to go to our Surgery and to Samaritans because we recognised the brilliant work undertaken by both organisations. We thought the money for Samaritans would be used to good effect supporting those who have found the nightmare of the last 18+ months too much and need to be able to talk. We value the work undertaken by their volunteers and thought this donation would demonstrate our thanks".
We are most grateful for this very generous donation. For information about how gifts like this help us maintain our services, please go to our Fundraising page.
"To support the wonderful work of the Samaritans from the people of Brinklow."
